In any technical interview, you can expect certain questions. “Describe the architecture of a system you built.” “How would you solve this specific algorithm challenge?” “What are your preferred programming languages?” These are important questions that help us gauge technical competency.

But the most important question we ask at Manaspurti has nothing to do with a candidate’s resume or technical prowess. Midway through our conversation, we pause and ask:

“Tell us about a time you did something with a wholehearted commitment—not because you had to, but because you believed it was the right thing to do.”

The answer can be about a professional project, a personal passion, a community initiative, or even helping a friend. The context doesn’t matter. What we are looking for is the “why” behind the effort.

This question is the heart of our interview process because it reveals the qualities that are essential for our mission:

  • Intrinsic Motivation: It shows us what drives a person beyond a paycheck or a job title. We are looking for people who are motivated by a sense of purpose, craftsmanship, and a desire to create something of value.
  • The Essence of ‘Manaspurti’: The story they choose to tell often perfectly illustrates their understanding of our core value. It shows us their capacity for deep focus, integrity, and the alignment of their actions with their beliefs.
  • Resilience and Passion: Committing to something wholeheartedly often involves overcoming obstacles. Hearing about these challenges and how they navigated them gives us a glimpse into their resilience, problem-solving skills, and passion.

We can teach someone a new coding language. We can bring them up to speed on a new system architecture. But we cannot teach purpose. We cannot teach character.

By asking this one simple question, we find the people who are already aligned with our mission. We find the builders, the creators, and the collaborators who are ready to join us in shaping a more conscious future.
